the other day i was talkin to a co worker about marriage. and she said that when she hears that one of her college or grad school friends is gettin married, her first thought is usually "why not me, I'm just as _________ as she is..." We chuckled but homegirl was serious. I told her that I'm usually happy for the bride. Like my friend that's gettin married this weekend for example. During our time in law school together, my friend would always say that she never thot she'd get married and she was fine with that. More than fine, she was happy with her life. Then bam, one day she decides to sign up for match.com on a whim and meets her soon to be huzband on her first time out. So, I told co-worker, when I hear a friend of mine is engaged I'm usually happy. Cause love is all around us and so the feeling grows.... I think we as single ladies should not be salty and send bad karmic vibes into the atmosphere when we hear one of our own is leaving the field. Don't hate, celebrate.
So all the single ladies, all the single ladies, put your hands up! What do you say or think when your friends tell you that they just got engaged?
I'm usually happy. The only time you will hear me complain is when a few of them are getting married (or pregnant) around the same time. I love love just as much as the next hopeless romantic, but my grad student bank account selfishly wishes they would stagger their nuptials a little better. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI say 'Congrats!' I tell them get ready to sacrifice, that it's never 20/20;that it's more like 80/20. I also tell them as a divorcee to agree to disagree; and to never let your husband 'sound odd' on you or about you to others! Most importantantly you can't change anyone...
ReplyDeleteWell said Cinco! Where were you during my marriage counselling sessions?
ReplyDeleteor maybe you could wait like ten years and get married in your late 30s. what's wrong with that
ReplyDeleteLike yo friend, I'm someone that NEVER EVER thought that she'd get married and was FINE with that. (I've been happily married for almost 4 years now--go FIGURE!) I think because I wasn't actively searching for a HUZBAND, it kinda just "happened". I have NO idea! But I'm a firm believer in the concept of: if it's meant to be, it will BE...you can't force a sitchy-ashun!
ReplyDeleteI am happy for my friends when they get engaged or married or have a baby (unless my "never-wrong-radar" thinks the man or woman is NO GOOD for my friend--then I cannot be GENUINELY happy for them because something in my "gut" feels WRONG...)
Other than that, if they're happy then I'M happy!
